葬禮之歌 - Fear no more the heat o' th' sun

莎劇《辛白林》︰葬禮之歌 (Fear no more the heat o' th' sun)
數月後終於可以重新上學開始聲樂課, 上課時認識了這首莎劇《辛白林》《Cymbeline》詩作的葬禮之歌. 這首是繼早前介紹過哈姆雷特(Hamlet)中的Ophelia Song, 另一首旋律優美, 讓叮叮十分喜愛的樂曲。
這首葬禮之歌出自莎劇《辛白林》《Cymbeline》第四幕第二景Act IV Scene II，也是一首深受近代作曲家青睞的詩作。英國作曲家Roger Quilter , Ian Higginson 和 Gerald Finzi的莎劇歌曲集《Let Us Garlands Brings》中也收錄了這首。
這首歌的情境是：
劇中女主角辛白林的女兒 Imogen 落難於鄉野，喬裝成男孩的她，被一位獵人和他的兩個兒子收留。這兩個兒子其實正是 Imogen 自小失散的親兄弟。 三兄妹雖不知彼此身份，但一見如故，以兄弟相稱。
Imogen 因旅途困頓而染病，遂服下之前僕人贈予的藥水。但這藥水是會讓人失去生命跡象，後來又恢復生命力的配方。獵人兒子誤以為 Imogen 已死，悲痛地將她下葬，吟唱了這首葬禮之歌。
在這景一開始，有一段對話讓我印象特別深刻，相當喜歡。
獵人兒子之一的 Arviragus 對 Imogen 說：你既然病了，就留在家裡吧。
“Brother, stay here. Are we not brothers?” 這樣有雙關意謂的問句很有意思。
就血緣來說，他們是「兄弟」；就情誼來說，他們也是兄弟。
Imogen 聽了，頗有感觸地說：
“So man and man should be; / But clay and clay differs in dignity. /
Whose dust is both alike.”
一如人與人之間本應稱兄道地；/ 然而，不同的肉身有不同的地位價值，/
但一旦化為塵土，就再也沒有分別了。
當爭執和衝突發生時，我們總是會這麼想，這麼說：唉，你我是這麼的不同...這鴻溝和疏離讓人格外感到孤單。
然而，如果把眼光放遠，從生死的角度來看，也許你我之間並沒有那麼不同...
