小玩意 - 七色彩虹匣子
近日收到威廉送給我的小禮物, 他說我這麼喜歡研究及購買健康藥物, 普通的小藥盒不夠我用. 這個七色小盒子就最適合. 但我卻投訴他把我看成一個藥煲! 說實話, 我只是喜歡買, 但就不太喜歡食, 所以家裏有很多過期藥物啊! 對於這個匣子, 現正煩惱不知放甚麼較適合, 大家可以給點提議.
這個盒子也令我想起多年前的一個趣事:
有一次逛屈臣士如常的在看健康藥物時, 也如常的讓着要買這個那個, 當我也如常的答應今次會將整樽藥片吃完時, 威廉說道:

大提琴巨匠(一) Bach Cello Suites by Rostropovich
羅斯特洛波維契（Mstislav Leopoldovich Rostropovich) 剛於本年四月二十七日逝世, 享年八十歲。 他是一位傑出的俄羅斯大提琴大師及指揮家。 他的演譯,一向以熱情著稱。
這是一套我很喜歡的巴赫大提琴無伴奏組曲, 這套組曲由六首不同調性的組曲合成, 每首組曲則由六段舞曲合成。這套組曲是在法國一所教堂內錄影, 反映巴赫時代音樂多於教堂內演奏。 它的旋律非常優美, 六組曲調, 六種意境, 各自獨立又環澴相扣著成一整體, 十分動人。 加上羅斯特洛波維契現身說法組曲的創作背景, 令欣賞時更加了解, 是一套很值得欣賞及珍藏的版本。
這套錄影本在威廉初學大提琴時已購了LD版本。 可惜, 羅斯特洛波維契是以俄語介紹他如何處理每一首組曲, LD只有日文字幕, 根本不能了解。 一次威廉的大提琴老師來到訪我們家中, 心想他是盧森堡人, 懂得多國語言, 可能幫上一把。 可惜連他也聽不懂俄語, 我們只好放棄了! 估不到這麼多年後, 發現這個大陸版DVD, 有中英文字幕, 我們終於可了解更多這位大師的演譯和這首組曲的獨特之處。 也對這位大師的一點懷念。
而馬友友的版本也很有趣, 有時间再與大家分享!

Mstislav Rostropovich was a renowned cellist and conductor of the 20th century. He was 80 when he died recently on 27 April 2007 in Moscow.
In this video, Mstislav Rostropovich prefaced each suite by a commentary. His graceful performance of the Bach Suites for Unaccompanied Cello illuminated the works' inner spirituality. This video was recorded at the Basilique Sainte Madeleine, Vezelay, Yonne, France in March 1991. This is one of my favourite recordings.
I bought this video in LD format many years ago when William first started to play the cello. However, in the LD, the commentary was spoken in Russian and come with Japanese subtitle only. We could not understand how he interpreted the music. Not until we bought this DVD version recently, we finally understood his interpretation and it was an enjoyable journey to explore the suites with Rostropovich.
I've also got another version which was played by Yo-Yo Ma and will share the experience with you in future.

The History of Classical Music
原因有兩方面:
第一, 它在說明一些音樂發展的時侯, 會節錄部份樂章來解釋. 這樣比較看書中的五線譜容易把握和理解;
第二, 當它演奏音樂示範時, 你不需要太專心, 精神可鬆一鬆!
這是根據一本音樂歷史書閱讀的. 內容從中古教堂音樂至現代音樂發展. 閱讀者的讀音非常清楚準確, 是一本可在睡前聆聽的有聲書.
The History of Classical Music, is written by Richard Fawkes and read by Robert Powell
This is a very good audiobook. It explains the musical development and expression from Medieval polyphony, sonata form, serial music to atonal modern music. The text of the reading is also illustrated by music performances to let the readers have a clear picture of the different musical forms.
This 4CDs set is a good bedtime story for me.

母親的繩結

今天是母親節。 雖然上星期已經與父母親慶祝了, 但也希望藉著這個Blog抒發對你們的思念。 你送給我們的繩結是我最欣賞的. 你要努力練習呀!
你們因為希望與女兒特別是孫兒多一點溝通, 在退休後還努力學習電腦。現在你已懂得上網, 倉頡和擁有自已的Blog! 其實女兒真的很佩服你的毅力與决心。 然而女兒就沒有這種能耐, 我現在還是用手寫筆的呢!
當你們退休後, 我有一種很特別的感覺, 就是大家有種身份互換的情況:
小時候你們供書教學, 交學費支持我學不同的課程, 表演時來訪鼓勵....
現在可不同了, 女兒給你交學費, 你表演我們來參加...
只是我們沒有你那麼有耐性, 在你的電腦功課有問題時, 總是氣沖沖惡巴巴的回答。 真是對不起啊!!! 如果當年你也是用這種態度教我們功課的話, 我們是不能好好學習的。
近日看新聞說香港人孝順, 只是說多於做。 我想只要想想自己有沒有像照顧兒女般看待父母便可以。 人們往往只顧將最好的留給兒女而忽略了父母親的需要 , 須知道當他們日漸老去的時候就越像小孩子, 他們能力越差時就更需要我們像照顧小孩般照顧他們。 母親, 女兒沒有小朋友要照顧是你的福氣, 因這樣才可專心照顧你們呀。
爸爸!媽媽! 我愛您!

持續進修基金

知道大家都對終生學習很感興趣。 在選擇課程時, 特意提醒大家可考慮申請上述基金。
這是一個政府開設的基金, 申請人完成課程並合格畢業後，可獲發還有關課程費用的80%或上限10,000港元。 學位持有人也可申請這個持續進修基金。
可惜申請人須報讀由教育統籌局局長認可的持續教育和培訓課程，才符合申請資格。認可的培訓課程大部份是外語或多媒體創作課程. 如果有認可的中醫課程, 我會立刻報讀!

深夜小狗神祕習題 (The curious incident of the dog in the night-time)
早陣子與大家分享的數學問題(Monty hall problem), 其實是在閱讀以上這本書時踫到的。
這本名為"深夜小狗神祕習題"的故事書是描述一個15歲的自閉症數學天才少年, 克里斯多弗的遭遇. 有天半夜他在家裏附近發現鄰居的小狗被人用鐵叉給活活叉死，他決定要把這個兇手找出來。
他為了找出殺狗兇手，努力的把自己推進一個他完全無法了解、沒有任何邏輯可言的"現實世界"裏。裏頭除了那隻被謀殺的狗之外，所有的事情平常人看來都是那麼的正常而應該，可是這樣的理所當然在小男孩的邏輯裏彷如天方夜譚,方旦離奇。神經質的文字，異質的書寫，少年克里斯多弗誠實到讓人有點無奈及心疼。
現節錄部份內容與大家分享:
"書本中的章節通常都以基數1，2，3，4，5，6……依此類推來劃分，但我決定用質數2，3，5，7，11，13……依此類推來劃分，因為我喜歡質數。質數就是你把所有的數學模式都去除之後餘下的數字。我覺得質數就像生命一樣，是非常合邏輯的，但你永遠也想不通那些規則，即使窮畢生之力去思考也不能。"
"我發現人很矛盾。 關於這點，有兩個主要的原因。
第一個原因是，人可以不用開口說話便表達許多意見。假如你閉上嘴巴，然後從鼻孔大力呼氣，那表示你松了一口氣，或者你覺得無聊，或者你很生氣，完全看你從鼻孔噴出的氣多少、多快，以及你做這個動作時嘴巴的形狀而定。此外還要看你當時的坐姿，之前所說的話，以及其他好幾百種不同的意義，複雜到令人無法在幾秒鐘之內弄明白。..."
閱讀這本書後, 除了對自閉症的兒童多了一分了解外, 還對自己一些覺得理所當然的邏輯想法多了一點反思! 希望大家也可以用包容的心來接待各樣的人。
本書是作者的第一本小說，2003年一出版便獲得「惠布瑞特年度最佳好書獎」（Whitbread Book of the Year Award）以及「衛報獎」。

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is the first novel written by Mark Haddon. It won the 2003 Whitbread Book of the Year and the 2004 Commonwealth Writers' Prize for the Best First Book.
The story is written about Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old boy who has Adperger syndrome. He is gifted at and focused on mathematics.
Christopher's mathematical interests are reflected in his numbering his chapters strictly with prime numbers, ignoring composite numbers such as 4 and 6. So the first is Chapter 2, followed by 3, then 5, 7, 11, and so on.
Christopher thinks a bit like a computer which follows strict logical algorithm and has difficulties in extracting the real meaning of a conversation through people's facial expression and gestures.
After reading the book, it drives me to re-think what is 'logical thinking' in our daily lives. It is an interesting and somehow enlightening bedtime reading.
